KEY FACTS
This 1986 Citroën BX 4TC is a remarkably rare homologation special, which is the only example finished in a black colour scheme from factory. This car was produced after the original production run of white cars which homologated the model for Group B rally use. It was assembled using leftover parts by technicians at the Heuliez factory and was donated to the then Director of the factory to commemorate his retirement, it was first registered in the Netherlands in 2019. The car is powered by a turbocharged 2.1-litre inline-four, which develops around 203hp which is sent to all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The car has now been with its current owner for 13 years, prior to which it is noted to have been in single ownership. The odometer shows 1,517 km, which is believed by the seller to be the correct total from new.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
The BX 4TC was Citroën’s entry into the fearsome Group B rally series of the 1980s, and was built by French engineering firm Heuliez. Citroën’s regular family hatchback, the BX, was redesigned with a four-wheel-drive chassis and a modified five-speed transmission from the SM. Whilst Group B rules required 200 cars to be built, it is believed that just 86 examples were completed, this example was made after the production run. The only example finished in black, it features red decals and side pinstriping. The cabin is trimmed in dark grey cloth with patterned seat centres. It rides on a set of 390mm metric wheels, fitted with Michelin TRX tyres. Equipment includes a quartet of spotlights, height-adjustable hydro-pneumatic suspension, a rear seat arm rest, a heated rear screen with wiper, attractive Jaeger dials, sun visors, electric windows, elasticated door pockets, and Citroen’s novel design of steering column which dispensed with the column stalks and instead mounted the car’s various functions on fingertip controls within easy reach of the wheel. Accompanying the sale is a history file of paperwork, and two keys.

SERVICE HISTORY
The latest service was carried out during December 2024 at 1,517 km by Renard Automobiles. The work comprised of an engine oil and filter change, and an inspection. During current ownership, the hydropneumatic suspension and clutch have been replaced.
SUMMARY
The Heuliez-built Citroën BX 4TC was a homologation special in order to enter the illustrious but ill-fated Group B rally series of the 1980s, and just 86 examples are believed to have been built of a planned production run of 200 before the series was cancelled. The only example ever finished in black, assembled with spare parts after the original production run had completed, this car is highly unique. Noted to be road registered and ready to use, it represents a fantastic and particularly rare opportunity for a marque collector or an enthusiast of 1980s rally royalty to add to their collection.
